Copper processingis a complicatedprocessthat begins withminingof the ore (less than 1%copper) and ends with sheets of 99.99% purecoppercalled cathodes, which will ultimately be made into products for everyday use. The most common types of ore,copper oxideandcopper sulfide, undergo two differentprocesses, hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy, respectively, due to the different chemistries of the ore.

Copper ore is mined in our X41 and Enterprise underground mines, where it is roughly crushed, then hoisted to the surface for processing. From here, it is fed through a series of ball mills that grind the rock into a fine dust. This dust is then mixed with water and reagents in our concentrator's flotation circuit.
